Gotham Lions won an enjoyable match 5-2 against BCI Breakers.Steve Butler won the opening frame against Jordan Parnham, the latter's 12 points coming from two fouls. A high quality second frame saw Steve Howard defeat his Monday night team-mate James Robinson. Robinson had a run of 15 but Howard replied with a 16 and a break point winning 33 clearance. Steve Kent snatched the third frame from Sean Croft thanks mainly to a good break of 20. Parnham took the fourth with a solid win against Graham Bourne but Howard extended the Lions lead with another victory over Robinson which included a run of 19. Croft produced some fabulous snooker in the final frame, making a 27 break on the way to a victory over Kent. Frame Results

Gotham Lions got back to winning ways with a 6-1 demolition of Pegasus Panthers. Steve Howard had breaks of 12 and 14 in a 54-7 win against Chris Mathers in the opening frame. Steve Butler then took on Eric Towle and after developing the reds on 17 Butler missed an easy black off the spot. Unfortunately Towle was unable to capitalise on the error and Butler went on to take the frame and secure the break point with a knock of 27. In frame three Barrie Towle took Steve Kent all the way to the black but Kent potted it to put the Lions 3-0 up and deny Towle senior his first win of the season. Mathers played well in frame four, beating Kent in fine style. Howard and Eric Towle then played out a tight fifth frame which Howard just managed to win. The final frame saw Butler notch up a run of 21 on his first visit following Barrie Towle's loose break off shot. He split the pack nicely but when potting the next red he played a push shot, much to his disgust. Towle fought back valiantly but after he committed a foul on the green Butler cleared the table to wrap up the frame.A blast from the past

We were recently contacted by a former resident of Gotham, Ann Barradell-Black, who comments: “I was very touched when I discovered in your short history of the cricket club a reference to my late father, Harry Barradell, as a 'stalwart of the club' who was elected Saturday captain in 1960. I still have the various tankards he won at different times, including one for his first century for the club, that same year. (He was celebrating my birth, he claimed) We left Gotham in 1968, but it was always a very important place for him. And those names - the Powdrills, Arthur Dabell, Les Talbot and the like - all very familiar to me nearly 50 years on. Such nostalgia! Would you be interested in a couple more photos from that era for your website? I have one of a team with Dad in the centre which is probably the Saturday team of that era. Dad also played lots of cricket for British Gypsum, and previously for a side in Nottingham (alongside Henry Voce - brother of the rather more famous bodyline veteran Bill) - but I know that that this photo is of Gotham CC as it also features John Fletcher, father of my old friend Cheryl - who I think has been even more of a stalwart over the years, as scorer for the club and indefatigable Forest supporter! Pity I have so few pictures actually of the rec. With best wishes to Gotham village and the club, from a misplaced Cuckoo!” ![]() one photo I am sure is Gotham CC around 1960 (my dad centre front, with bat; Cheryl's dad third from right on the back row). Particularly like the home made sightscreen ![]() one that I'm not sure about - maybe a Nottm team. My dad at the back, second from right. Back right is Henry Voce. Looks to be a year or two earlier, if Dad's hair is anything to go by!) ![]() and one of my Dad at Tutbury CC after he finally realised that his knees were no longer up to hours keeping wicket! Probably 1980s some time? |
